My percussion is kind of odd

Sometimes when you get really frustrated because the percussion that you would like to use doesn't quite sound like you want it, something really interesting emerges.

I wanted to use cajon and tabla for my next mantra song and I cannot play or have both instruments. There is a beautiful tabla plugin that I can use, but I wasn't quite happy with the cajon, yet. And then I looked into buying a cajon.

Any way, to make a long story short: I decided to make a cajon out of cardboard because I wanted to start playing and recording right away and not have to wait for a cajon being sent to me. And I tried playing simple grooves on it. And it worked.

Here is a photo of my studio with my self-made cajon (I will not tell you how I made sure the cajon can make snare sounds, this will remain my secret :-)), and below you can find sound samples of my cajon:

This is what my cajon sounds like:

And this is what the cajon sounds like when I play on it with brushes (keeping it classy and professional over here ;-)):

I hope this behind-the-scenes story was joyful for you. I look forward to sharing more of my adventures soon!

Enjoy :-)

Hi there lovely, I'm Jouleeyah. Before I was a Spiritual Healer, I was a singer/songwriter and a vocal coach – doing healing work only part-time. But at the age of 35, I felt called to play with Spirit more intensely and to turn my music-making into a professional hobby, instead. And now my life is about helping you to infuse every area of your life with health, self-love and success. I live in the very south of Germany in a city called Konstanz which is surrounded by beautiful nature, a lake, a river, mountains and two other countries – Switzerland and Austria. My Blog is a playground and journal for my creative expression – music, art and healing work.
